Abstract: The present study explores the relationship between academic burnout, perfectionism, goal orientation and time management competency on a sample of 1000 under graduate students of degree colleges affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. To accomplish the objectives of the study, Academic Burnout Scale, Almost Perfect Scale, Goal Orientation Scale, and Time Management Competency Scale were used. Major findings reveal negative and significant relation of academic burnout with standard and order dimensions of perfectionism. However, positive and significant relation was observed between academic burnout and discrepancy dimension of perfectionism. Moreover, a significant and negative relation was found between academic burnout and approach related dimensions of goal orientation; a significant and negative relation was found between academic burnout and avoidance related dimensions of goal orientation. Result of the study also reveals significant and negative relation between academic burnout and all dimensions of time management competency. Significant differences were found on variable academic burnout among perfectionist and non perfectionist students, between adaptive and maladaptive students, between students with high goal orientation and students with low goal orientation, between students with good time management and students with poor time management. Significant differences were also found between science and arts students as well as between male and female students. This study would be useful for parents, teachers, counselors and educational administrators to guide the students with respect to setting standards for performance, fixing realistic goals and efficient time management in order to reduce academic burnout. newline
