Undated image of man, wearing a suit and hat, holding two killed birds. An early model automobile stands behind him. PBPM 79-039.022.02 Inscription (on back): Mr. Sam Sloan - friend of dads - killed in plane crash near country club of Colorado Texas - had been flyer in war I think - killed 1 January 1929 L.J. 7-28-68 (attached note:)Sam Sloan dad's friend died in plane crash near Colorado Country Club, Colorado, Texas 1-1-29 Samuel A. Sloan [Hall of Famer] Early, successful Mitchell County, Texas oil "wildcatter". Born in Stephens County, Texas; died January 1, 1929 in crash of his light, high-winged Fairchild momoplane (powered with 90 HP OX5 water cooled motor). Crash occurred near Colorado City, Texas Country Club where his friend, Kate Justice, was hostess - Sloan was a WWI combat ace & Justice was an Army nurse in France WWI. 10-12-79 Lee Jones, Jr.
