Abstract

Downscaling techniques based on the self-organizing maps (SOMs) technique can be used to downscale Global Climate Model (GCM) climate change projections into finer spatial resolution projections. These downscaling techniques are commonly used to address the scale mismatch between coarse resolution GCM outputs and regional or local scales The SOM downscaling technique was employed to project rainfall and temperature changes for 2046–2065 and 2080–2100 periods for the Same district, Tanzania. All models predict fairly stable seasonal rainfall start dates, but highly variable and increased end dates.
