The majority of children and pre-teens already integrated in primary education was born in the digital tools and social media era, as many agencies and international organisms highlight, and will practice professions that do not currently exist. Due to this fact, it’s becoming increasingly important to promote competences, such as critical and creative thinking, in order to prepare them to deal with the unpredictability they will find and allow them a lifelong requalification. In this context and concerning the potential of the Communities of Learning and/or Practice (CLP), namely online, in the perspective of teachers’ education, we seek to reflect about the role of these communities in the promotion of critical thinking. Thus, in this book the teachers’ professional communities will be presented, highlighting the learning and practice communities and then the online communities, bearing in mind the justification and the construction of good practices for teacher education, in the case of primary education. The framework and reasons that justify this work will also be identified. Next, the research on critical thinking in education is synthesized, focusing, on the one hand, on the approaches and reference frameworks and, on the other hand, on the teaching and learning strategies. Then, it’s described the way critical thinking has been promoted in the context of the Didactics of Science through an online CLP denominated EducaCiencia. Finally, some reflections that may allow the improvement of teachers’ training and education are mentioned. As it is assumed further ahead, in the context of multidimensionality, training processes and their intervening parties, and within the framework of its complexity and interactions, it’s aimed to improve the practice of these future science teachers since the first years, in a critical scientific literary approach. The relevance of this work, which also configures one of its innovative aspects, comes from the need to foster spaces for the (re)construction of knowledge on primary education teachers’ training, in a (Bologna reform) framework that is still emerging in Portugal. Another innovative aspect, that emphasizes its relevance, is the operationalization of such space according to the development of an online CLP. |
