As
motivadora School failure in the Function topic within the discipline of Mathematic is evident for example in the National Exams at the end of Secondary School. The difficulties in this topic relate essentially to the duality of the function concept (since it can be perceived as an object or as a process), also the restriction of the function concept only to its graphic representation and the symbolic ambiguity. Function composition is one of the concepts where students exhibit more difficulties within this topic. The ability to represent, classify and identify functions in its different forms (numerical, algebraic or graphical) grants the students a greater understanding of the topic of Functions. Given such, in this study it was decided to explore multiple representations of composed functions through the GeoGebra software, wich can also contribute to the motivation of students, side-by-side with the traditional technologies of paper and pencil. Thus emerging the main research question: In classroom context, does a proper use of GeoGebra allied to the use of traditional tools, contribute for a more solid and motivating appropriation of mathematical concepts? The multiple case of qualitative nature considered five groups of students from a class of 11th year of the Humanistic and Scientific Course and favored as data collecting technique’s observation, the gathering of documents and crossexamination. Such data were subjected to content analysis, driven by a system of categories that emerged from the literature revised. The results corroborate the conclusions from previous studies, revealing that a didactic approach that uses side-by-side GeoGebra and the traditional technologies of paper and pencil can contribute to a more solid learning of concepts, in this case, concerning the composition of functions. The results support that students considered this didactic approach motivating |
