Abstract

The complex interrelationship between figurative art and dramatic art is one of the major questions of historiographic analysis, from the studies by Emile Male, George Kernodle, Pierre Francastel and Ludovico Zorzi, until the present days: not the scenography and the theatrical stagecraft in a narrow context, but figurative art not directly connected with theatre production. This essay proposes some innovative methodological considerations in order to trace the reasons which lie behind the need to bring together the study of theatrical performances and of iconographic evidence
