Today, the presence of the Copts in Italy is supposed to be around 70,000 people and scattered along the territory. The majority is centered around the Milan area. The total number of Copts in Italy remains quite obscure also because of the non-compulsory religious identity answer in Italian censuses. The total Egyptian migration in Italy is estimated to be around 119,000 while the Copts should represent one third of this total. Important is the role of this religious community: the Copts give aid not only to their parishioners, but they offer shelter to local communities valorizing the churches and the places where they pray and live.

Abstract

Today, the presence of the Copts in Italy is supposed to be around 70,000 people and scattered along the territory. The majority is centered around the Milan area. The total number of Copts in Italy remains quite obscure also because of the non-compulsory religious identity answer in Italian censuses. The total Egyptian migration in Italy is estimated to be around 119,000 while the Copts should represent one third of this total. Important is the role of this religious community: the Copts give aid not only to their parishioners, but they offer shelter to local communities valorizing the churches and the places where they pray and live.
