Over the past few decades, the Chinese community living in Italy has undergone significant changes. This is not limited to the diversified business sectors in which they now operate, but it also concerns their increased social, cultural, and political impact. In this context, a relevant role is played by second-generation Chinese. Recently, they have started to define themselves as “Italian Born Chinese” (IBC), recognizing the influence of both Italian and Chinese origins on their identity and culture. As IBC are affecting several fields of the Italian society and also represent a growing interlocutor for institutions, Italy should recognize their role in the public debate, enhancing the understanding of the Chinese minority, which has mainly considered as a closed community so far.
