In the critical apparatus to Sir 37:25 one reads the variant "gwythn mspr ...mym | sm ymy ʾyn mspr", which I. Lévi and F. Vattioni regard as a marginal gloss. This contribution proposes the following reconstruction of the gloss:"gwyt hn mspr ymym | wgwyt šm ymy ʾyn mspr", in which, as in Sir 41:13, the term "gᵉwiyyâ", “body”, would be equivalent to “ ḥayyîm”, "life", i.e. "person". The reconstructed text may be rendered as follows: "The life of body (= person) has days that are numbered, but the (good) name (of man) counts for innumerable days".
