In this inaugural editorial, the authors provide a brief overview of some of the current challenges in immunology. The new open access Journal ”International Trends in Immunity” (ITI) will hopefully create a forum to discuss these as well as other critical issues. Clearly there are ongoing needs for new vaccines, improved immunotherapies of cancer, novel strategies to understand and overcome immunosenescence, and address the concerns of increased incidence and severity of allergic diseases and primary immunodeficiencies. In this and future issues of the journal, we encourage provocative hypotheses based on strong experimental evidence.

Abstract

In this inaugural editorial, the authors provide a brief overview of some of the current challenges in immunology. The new open access Journal ”International Trends in Immunity” (ITI) will hopefully create a forum to discuss these as well as other critical issues. Clearly there are ongoing needs for new vaccines, improved immunotherapies of cancer, novel strategies to understand and overcome immunosenescence, and address the concerns of increased incidence and severity of allergic diseases and primary immunodeficiencies. In this and future issues of the journal, we encourage provocative hypotheses based on strong experimental evidence.
