Person Interviewed
Young, Ling
Description
Ling Young was born in Guangzhou, China and came to the United States with her family in 1963. She was not only a conscientious mother of her growing family but a hard-working professional at the New York State Tax Department. She was on the 78th floor of the World Trade Center when a plane hit the building. Knocked unconscious by the impact, she felt profound gratitude that she was among those who escaped the tower with her life, only to later discover she had suffered extensive second and third-degree burns on her body. After spending several months in the hospital, Ling began a challenging, unpredictable, roller-coaster course of recovery. Ling and her family face the challenge of years of painful and complicated surgeries due to her extensive injuries. However, it was Ling's incredible sense of humor and her devoted family who helped pave the way for her triumphant healing.
