Abstract
The connections of a University of California (Davis) plant biology professor, Dr. Ray Valentine, with Calgene, a research company he co-founded, have led to renewed considerations by the state's Fair Political Practices Commission of its blanket exemption of university researchers from conflict of interest laws. Faculty members and graduate students have expressed concern that Calgene projects are influencing the dissertation research of students. (KIE abstract)
