There is an increasing demand for reliable health statistical information for studying health problems, directing health programmes and evaluating health services. The demand upon qualified personnel to meet the existing needs is therefore increasing correspondingly all the time. Though the number of personnel required for the efficient running of health statistical Services at local and national level has never been estimated, it is agreed that there is a shortage of trained health statistical personnel at all levels of statistical work. Considerable attention has been given to the question of training personnel of all categories of education and status, and a large number of WHG-assisted Vital and Health Statistical projects have been organized along these lines and fellowships awarded to health statistical personnel.
