ABSTRACT: The financial crisis that emerged in 2007 has been one of the most serious in the history of the world economy.
This Great Recession, which began in the United States due to the bankruptcy of one of the most important investment banks in the world such as Lehman Brothers, immediately moved to the European market where the member countries of the European Union suffered the consequences of the American crisis.
One of the countries most affected by this financial collapse was Spain. The cause was the construction sector, which had improved the Spanish economy significantly until the outbreak of the crisis, at which time the sector seriously declined and dragged the rest of the economy.
Therefore, in this paper, the economic indicators mainly affected by the financial crisis will be studied. It will be analyzed its evolution from the years prior to the depression to compare two different cycles, the first one until 2007, and the second one from this year until today. In addition, for a more in-depth analysis, the values of these indicators will be compared with those of the rest of the European Union and the world.
However, the purpose of this paper is to explain the outbreak of the crisis in the United States and its influence in Europe and Spain. In addition, in the case of Spain, it is intended to show the difference between the data obtained for the years prior to the crisis and the subsequent ones, and to make the necessary explanations.
