ABSTRACT: Videogames are one of the technological phenomena with a larger impact on our society. The consumption of videogames in Spain during the last years has positioned them as one of the main industries of leisure and entertainment, but there has also been a significant increase in the use and investigation of videogames in education. These are used in the classroom as a motivation tool which has been proven to have multiple benefits over students´ learning and have managed to attract the attention of educators towards the development of their own educational videogames.
Nevertheless, and despite their benefits, the design of these videogames by teachers requires a great investment in time, education and technical resources, which prevents the achievement of realistic goals, or those of desired quality. Therefore, a study regarding the education value of videogames and the perceptions about its use in Cantabria is carried out in this work. Furthermore, a proposal for cooperative videogame design-based learning is provided.
The major findings point out a wide interest from the students towards these technologies, and, therefore, it is considered that a proposal with these characteristics could make an impact on the new generations’ way of learning.
