ABSTRACT In this project it is argued that the development of the Emotional Intelligence is an aspect that should be incorporated into children’s education from an early age (Bisquerra, 2012). Also, it is stated that children’s literature, and in particular the picture book, are powerful tools to work emotional aspects in the class. To develop the proposal, this dissertation begins by explaining the concept of Emotional Intelligence, its evolution, and the benefits that its development implies in childhood. Secondly, it analyzes the benefits that children’s literature has on preschool children, being the emphasis placed on the huge support that the picture book entails at this stage. Then, it is explained the relation between emotions and literature, to finally conclude with a proposal based on the transformation of children’s experiences in picture books, and its later narration, with the aim of promoting the understanding of basic emotions in the stage of Early Childhood Education.
