We evaluated the evolution of an agroecosystem located in Secano Interior of Chile, according to the agroecological management applied for 20 years. Farm sustainability was vertically analysed comparing 16 agri-environmental and economic indicators obtained by the MESMIS methodology. The years 1993 (start of production), 2000, 2007 and 2013 were compared. Indicators reflected considerable progress in the attributes of productivity, stability, resilience and self-management. The production indicator increased over 100%, mainly due to the increase of agricultural biodiversity (35.9%) and ecological management of the soil. The latter achieved a higher content of MOS (2.54 to 5.35%), greater structural stability (from 33.3 to 54.6) and reduced soil loss (from 8.04 to 0.22 t/ha/yr). The higher level of sustainability achieved after 20 years, demonstrate that agroecological productionstrategy is a suitable alternative for the sustainable development of small farmers in the Secano Interior of Chile.
