Abstract

This book examines the need to develop environmentally and economically sustainable agriculture in coastal tropical ecosystems, which are some of the most sensitive and understudied ecosystems in the world. It attempts to assess the pesticide burdens of the major food-producing tropical countries using case studies from different coastal tropical regions. In addition, this book analyzes pesticide usage in these coastal regions and the effect of agricultural runoff, carrying the residues of insecticides, fungicides and other pesticides, on the health of nearby rivers and streams.
