Abstract
To study the attitudes surrounding, prevalence and effect of rape in our society today I worked at the Rape Crisis Center in Washington, DC. There I was able to gain relevant experience to supplement my research on the topic. I was also able to verify several theories about rape and violence against women. This experience gave me the opportunity to explore some of the questions I had about sexual assault, and to test whether the literature about rape was out-dated. Unfortunately, many of the myths surrounding the experience of sexual assault are alive and well in the minds of both men and women.
