Marked effects of high bromide levels in the organism on iodine meta-bolism in the thyroid of rats were observed. High bromide intakedecreased the amount of iodide accumulated in the thyroid, changedthe proportion between the amount of iodine retained in the thyroidand the total amount of absorbed iodine, significantly shortened thebiological half-life of iodine in the thyroid, changed the time courseladded a furthrer phase of iodine elimination from the body.
