Boron carbide is a candidate for plasma facing components in fusion reactors,mainly thanks to its atomic number and high melting point.Other applications include microwave absorption coatings as biological shielding,protective coatings on Tokamak probes and coatings for boride generation in steels as neutron absorbing layers for spent nuclear fuel containers.
