The preparation of Br-terminated methyl methacrylate macronitiator (MI) from living precursors obtained by anionic or GTP polymerization was examined. Tranformation of the precursor end groups with bromine or N-bromosuccinimide, resp., afforded 60 % functionalization. MI was utilized in the synthesis of ABC triblock copolymers by ATRP. Another macroinitiator, a monodisperse, in-chain densely functionalized polystyrene, suitable for ATRP grafting, was prepared by polymer-analogous reactions. Thereafter, monodisperse copolymers with acrylate were obtained.
