An examination of the Pyramid of Neferefre (Raneferef, the 5th dynasty – 25th century BC), revealed considerable insight into Egyptian life. The Sanctuary of the Knife located South-East of the temple, was a unique part of the temple complex. It served the needs of the temple personnel and according to the preserved iconographic and written evidence, a long-term slaughtering of animal sacrifices was practiced there. During the excavation, over five hundred pieces of knives and blades were found. A sample of 26 knives and 33 blades were selected for use-wear analysis to gain complementary information about acitivities performed in the sanctuary.

Výzkum pyramidy Neferefrea (Raneferef, 5. dynastie, 25. století př.n.l.) přinesl zásadní vhledy do života ve starém Egyptě. Svatyně Nože, ležící v jihovýchodní části byla unikátní částí tohoto komplexu. Sloužila potřebám chrámového personálu a podle dochované ikonografické i písmené dokumentace zde probíhalo dlouhodobé zabíjení obětovaného dobytka. Během výzkumu bylo získáno přes pět set kamenných nožů a čepelí. Vzorek 26 nožů a 33 čepelí byl podroben traseologické analýze, aby tak byly získány doplňující informace o činnostech probíhající v této svatyni.
