The possible adverse health-effects of nanoparticles are as yet little understood. Experimental studies currently available highlight the proof of biological effects of nanoparticles on the respiratory system with the generation of oxidative stress, pro-inflammatory effects and a possible development of fibrosis, pulmonary emphysema and/or cancer. Experts´ forecast of the European Risk Observatory of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) puts nanoparticles at the top of the list of emerging risks. We have just completed and analyzed results of a study performed in February 2012 and, in our opinion, the data bring an innovative view and positive results that may elucidate potential risk of chemically non toxic aerosols.
