Endothelin receptor A (ETA) blockade was demonstrated to partially lower blood pressure in various hypertensive models – including Ren-2 transgenic rats. However, the exact mechanism has not been elucidated. Our study demonstrated that BP-lowering effect of chronic ETA blockade with atrasentan is mediated by the reduced calcium influx through voltage-dependent calcium channels due to attenuated angiotensin II-dependent vasoconstriction and missing ETA receptor-dependent vasoconstriction
