Herbaceous wetlands of northern Belize represent a special shallow areas distributed in the whole Caribbean district. They have a special hydrological function in large areas and contain a special vegetation particularly heavy cyanobacterial mats, which are developed on plants and benthos in alkaline environments. In the corresponding chapter is described structure and development of these communities during the vegetation season and they are identified dominant species. In these Caribbean marshes is developed a characteristic vegetation with several new species. The vegetation of cyanobacteria was evaluated also by molecular sequencing. In the chapter was described the seasonality, dependence of all communities on ecological factor and sensitivity to eutrophication.
