    The recent application of ontologies to different domains of science highlights their flexibility in knowledge mapping and sharing which constitute critical prerequisites for an optimized solving of complex tasks. This paper outlines the utilization of ontologies for the sake of inspecting and monitoring damages to historical constructions.The MONDIS project concentrates on developing integrated knowledge-based tools, grounded on an ontological representation of the field of heritage conservation, in order to support professionals in the documentation of damages to historical constructions and in finding related remedies. The paper focuses on software components developed within the project including: the MONDIS mobile application, the MONDIS record explorer, the Ontomind profiles, the knowledge matrix and the terminology editor. Such components open to a variety of different applications as well as to different types of users, being these experts or non-experts in the domain such as professionals administrators, academics, owners and students.
