Dieses Kapitel aus einem Band über die europäische Buchkultur der Barockzeit bietet eine Überblick über die Länder der Böhmischen Krone (Böhmen, Mähren, Schlesien) von ca. 1600 bis in die 1770er Jahre. Nachdem auf einige paradigmatische Brüche in der einschlägigigen Historiographie eingegangen wurde, diskutiert das Kapitel 2 den religiösen und politischen Kontext der Buchkultur um 1620 und ihre konfessionelle Teilung während der Gegenreformation in heimische katholische Drucker und nicht-katholische im Exil. Das prosopographisch angelegte Kapitel 3 stellt einige wichtige Druckerfamilien vor, geht auf Fragen der Firmenmobilität und dem Gewicht von Druckereien zwischen den kleineren und den größeren Städten sowie den hebräischen Buchdruck ein. In Kapitel 4 geht es um das Buch als Mittel weltlicher und geistlicher Repräsentation. Hierunter fallen sowohl das Objekt Buch als auch Büchersammlungen und Bibliotheken von Orden und Adelsdynastien (z. B. Franz Anton Spork). Das Ende barocker Buchkultur wird sowohl an typographischen Veränderungen als auch dem breiten Aufkommen bürgerlichen Buchkultur ab der Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts festgemacht.

This chapter from a volume on European printing culture in the baroque period provides an overview over the Lands of the Bohemian Crown (Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia) from cca. 1600 to the 1770ties. After highlighting some paradigmatic changes in the historiography of the subject, chapter 2 presents the religious and political contexts of book and printing culture around 1620, the confessional division of book culture during counter-reformation into catholic printers at home and the non-catholic book culture in the exile. Chapter 3 offers a prosopographic view on important families in printing business and discusses the mobility of companies, printing in smaller towns vs. capitals and hebrew printing culture. Chapter 4 highlights the book as a means of secular and religious representation. This includes the object itself as well as large book collections and libraries of monarsteries and noblemen (e.g. Franz Anton Spork). From the middle of the 18th century on, typographical changes as well as the rise of a broad bourgeois book culture indicate the end of the baroque period.
