How we can summarise the numerous examples of the differences and common features between Bohemia, Moravia and the Middle Danube area revealed in the archaeological record as described in this paper? Can we speak of Boii in terms of their material culture? We may conclude that those were mainly people, groups - communities, bounded by kinship, united by their common political and commercial interests especially what concerns the long distance contacts within supra-regional systems. This is revealed by monetary systems, and imported goods, as well as in the form of settlement features such as the fortification architecture of the oppida. On the other hand the individual territories above the Middle Danube are clearly differentiated by their local cultural traditions, indigenous development of settlements, local resources and environment, reflected in subsistence strategies and regional production of ceramics, mill stones, or foodstuffs. We may thus understand them as one "federation" led by the elite families uniting different communities ... whether they are or are not the Boii (or even Volcae-Tectosages).
