Studie se zabývá polemikou, jež napomohla formovat české humanitní vědy na konci 19. století a na jejímž počátku stál článek Tomáše Garrigua Masaryka Jak zvelebovati naši literaturu naukovou? z roku 1885 a pokračovala až do roku 1900. Na příkladech dvou vědních oborů, historie a literární historie dokládáme, že diskuse charakterizuje úsilí oprostit humanitní vědy od společenských a politických utilitarizací. Antologie v jednom svazku tyto základní texty zpřístupňuje.

The paper is concentrated on the polemic, that helped to shape Czech humanities, beginning with Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk's 1885 article "How to Improve our Scholarly Literature?" and continuing until 1900. Taking as examples two disciplines, history and literary history, we demonstrate that the discussion on scholarly literature served as the starting point for further debates, regardless of whether their authors participated in them directly or were linked only indirectly. The anthology makes this fundamental texts available in one volume.
