Text popisuje a hodnotí půl století trvající tradici studia dějin národů a zemí Balkánského poloostrova na Filozofické fakultě Masarykovy univerzity v Brně a v brněnské pobočce Historického ústavu Akademie věd České republiky. U zrodu této tradice stáli v 60. letech 20. století historik Josef Macůrek a turkolog a bulharista Josef Kabrda. V následujících desetiletích pěstovala historickou balkanistiku v Brně řada dalších významných profesorů a odborníků - Ivan Dorovský, Josef Kolejka, Ctibor Nečas, Lubomír Havlík, Vladislav Šťastný, Pavel Hradečný a další. Díky tomu se daří rozvíjet studium historie a kultury Balkánského poloostrova, resp. celé širší oblasti jihovýchodné Evropy, dodnes.

The essay describes and evaluates five decades long study tradition of the history of Balkan nations and countries at the Faculty of Arts Masaryk University in Brno and in the Brno branch of the Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences. At the birth of this tradition stood in 1960s historian Prof. Josef Macůrek and Prof. Josef Kabrda, renowned specialists on Turkey and Bulgaria. In subsequent decades Balkan studies in Brno were guided by a number of other important professors and experts, such as Ivan Dorovský, Josef Kolejka, Ctibor Nečas, Lubomír Havlík, Vladislav Šťastný, Pavel Hradečný and others. It is gratifying that research about the history and culture of the countries of the Balkan Peninsula, and indeed southeastern Europe as a whole, continues in Brno today.
