In this chapter we discuss key aspects of heart morphogenesis, namely the formation of the cardiac conduction system, coronary vascularization, and septation. We discuss functional studies and their contribution to our understanding of normal and abnormal development. Finally, we provide some explanations for particular shapes of the left ventricle in different species, reasoning that it is due to combination of physical constrains and functional optimization.
