Nanofibers (or nano/microfibers) have been widely studied in tissue regeneration, due to their structure resembling extracellular matrix and biocompatibility. The majority of nanofibers are currently being prepared from biodegradable polymers. They have been used either alone as composite scaffolds, which often combine synthetic and natural polymers, or as hybrid scaffolds. Hybrid scaffolds have better biomechanical properties which can be tailored according to the regenerated tissue, this structure is stable for a defined time. They improve cell adhesion and proliferation, decrease adverse reactions or can serve as a drug delivery system modifying cell proliferation and differentiation and, therefore, tissue regeneration.
