Fotograf Jan Svoboda (1934–1990) vnímal sochy Zdeňka Palcra (1927–1996) jako autonomní výtvarný motiv. Fotografie těchto soch vznikaly v období 60.–80. let 20. století primárně jako dokumentace sloužící sochaři, fotograf je však autorsky přetvořil v obrazy specifických výtvarných kvalit a nevšední obrazové hodnoty. Kniha těchto fotografií je zároveň katalogem stejnojmenné výstavy, která proběhla v Galerii výtvarného umění v Chebu v roce 2019. Vedle početných reprodukcí zahrnuje čtyři odborné studie rozebírající samotné fotografie soch od Jana Svobody (studie Kataríny Mašterové) i vlastní dílo Zdeňka Palcra (studie Ivy Mladičové a esej Vladimíry Koubové-Eidernové), dvou přátel umělců z okruhu skupiny Máj 57, které přestože patří k nejkvalitnějším z českého výtvarného umění druhé poloviny 20. století, je dnes téměř neznámé. Knihu doplňuje popis přátelství i výtvarného a myšlenkového souznění obou autorů (text Jaromíra Zeminy), jejich stručné životopisy a výběrová bibliografie. Kniha zahrnuje unikátní a nově zpřístupněný obrazový materiál.

The photographer Jan Svoboda (1934 – 1990) perceived the sculptures of Zdeněk Palcr (1927 – 1996) as stand-alone artistic motifs. The photographs of these sculptures were created in the period of the 1960s – 1980s, primarily as a form of documentation for the purposes of the sculptor. The photographer however made them into images with their own distinct qualities and singular artistic value. This book of images simultaneously serves as the catalogue for the exhibition of the same name which took place in the Gallery of Fine Arts in Cheb in 2019. Apart from numerous reproductions, it also includes scholarly studies focusing on the photographs of Jan Svoboda’s sculptures (a study by Katarína Mašterová), as well as on the work of Zdeněk Palcr (a study by Iva Mladičová and an essay by Vladimíra Koubová–Eidernová), two associates of the Máj 57 circle who have become virtually unknown nowadays, despite the fact that their work represents some of the best Czech fine art which the second half of the 20th century has to offer. The book is supplemented by a description of their friendship, as well as the artistic and intellectual resonance between both authors (in a text by Jaromír Zemina), their brief biographies and selected bibliography. The book offers unique and never-before-seen illustrations.
