Abstract:
State aid is a very important instrument of managing change in sensitive
sectors. Enterprises in these sectors very often have a difficult financial situ-
ation and only with using state aid can these firms realize restructuring. The
coal mining sector has an especially hard situation. Hard coal mining has
always been an important branch of the Polish economy, but the changes in
this sector take long time and generally have a backward and fragmentary
character.
The paper describes the rules of using the state aid in the coal mining sec-
tor. The main goal of the article is to show how state aid can be the source of
detrimental effects in the restructuring processes of the coal mining sector.
These effects can be internal and external. The author of the paper tried to
give an answer when state aid in mines can bring positive results.
