De vaccinatiegraad tegen besmettelijke kinderziekten is de afgelopen jaren afgenomen en het lijdt geen twijfel dat de toenemende invloed van de antivaccinatiebeweging hier debet aan is. Met hun spookverhalen kunnen ze bewerkstelligen wat decennia voor onmogelijk werd gehouden: het opnieuw uitbreken van ziekten als mazelen en kinkhoest. Maar wat verklaart de aantrekkingskracht van de antivaccinatiebeweging eigenlijk? Ik dit artikel betoog ik dat veel argumenten van de antivaccinatiebeweging initieel erg plausibel lijken maar bij nadere analyse gewoonlijk een serieuze en verifieerbare onderbouwing missen.
