- Abstract
- The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that a Schleicherian approach to the so-called established Uralic and Altaic language families is not convincing. It is more fruitful to consider the convergences between individual members of these language groups in terms of a theory of language contact and isoglosses. The objective of such a research approach is to sort out the defining features of language areas in the Eurasian space.
