An abstract quantitative model of a Human Computer Interface is introduced in order to evaluate the impact of the operator’s errors on the total dependability figures in safety critical systems. Usability, expressed as a function of the workload on the operator, carelessness, and the difficulty of learning, modeled as a function of the time needed to use the interface without making mistakes, are considered as the evaluation parameters of the model. The proposal requires a strong experimental work to determine the exact form of the functions and the values for the numerical coefficients.

Abstract

An abstract quantitative model of a Human Computer Interface is introduced in order to evaluate the impact of the operator’s errors on the total dependability figures in safety critical systems. Usability, expressed as a function of the workload on the operator, carelessness, and the difficulty of learning, modeled as a function of the time needed to use the interface without making mistakes, are considered as the evaluation parameters of the model. The proposal requires a strong experimental work to determine the exact form of the functions and the values for the numerical coefficients.
