This study deals with a microbial air sampler which differently from the most used ones, is using a centrifugal effect within a spiral coil. Physical collection efficiency and cut-off size (d50) are investigated through a DPM CFD model, a simplified analytical model and some experimental tests. The results are compared and discussed at different airflow rates. A quite good agreement is found for diameter ≥ 2 μm.

Abstract

This study deals with a microbial air sampler which differently from the most used ones, is using a centrifugal effect within a spiral coil. Physical collection efficiency and cut-off size (d50) are investigated through a DPM CFD model, a simplified analytical model and some experimental tests. The results are compared and discussed at different airflow rates. A quite good agreement is found for diameter ≥ 2 μm.
