Analiza leksykalnych wykładników niepewności w korpusie tekstów fantastycznych

Abstract

The goal of the article is an analysis of lexical exponents of inexpressibility/uncertainty/doubt in the corpus of fantasy literature. Uncertainty/doubt is one of the defining criteria of fantasy literature as the world pictured does not exist in the extralinguistic dimension. How does language capture and sustain the uncertainty between what is known and what transcends human understanding? The literary text is rarely a focus of interest for linguists, which should definitely be attributed to its unpredictability. At the same time, methods proposed by linguistics, especially corpus linguistics, can significantly widen the scope of literary studies. The research material for the paper is a corpus comprising “Powieści fantastyczne” by E.T.A. Hoffmann and a collection of fantasy novellas “Opowieści fantastyczne”. The suggested research fits in with the work of DiSem group (Discourse Semantics Interference).
