The purpose of the paper is to identify and analyze the smart and green technologies in order to promote competitiveness and sustainability in the management of ports and related strategy. Thus, a systematic analysis of these technological tools is proposed through the Genoa Port case study. Start from it, the main finding is that the deployment of smart and green technologies is fundamental to improve innovation, knowledge transfer, flexibility, accessibility and environmental safety. However, it has to be said that the paper is limited by the analysis of a single case study. Moreover, it could be considered a first step in a stream of research on some unexplored aspects of ports' competitiveness.
