Abstract

The article faces some issues related to the ''university book'' in its current electronic form, and also underlines the eventual connections with the medieval manuscript that foreshadows the ''modern'' book both in the graphic-structural arrangement and in the production methods. The new distributive models, the new ways of acquisition of the texts and the low impact of the current digital scientific book give the opportunity to think over the reading practices and the ways of learning involved in the use of the texts in electronic format, their graphic layout, the production, circulation and conservation of e-books in relation to the more traditional survey of the manuscript and printed book. These elements acquire more importance in a massive digital contest and in a changing editorial market.
