This paper presents the initial results of a simulation study on the flexural vibration and interior noise of a thin cylindrical structure excited by a point force and equipped with sweeping tuneable vibration absorbers. These devices are classical mass-spring-damper absorbers whose stiffness and damping parameters are continuously varied within given ranges. In this way their fundamental resonance and damping coefficient can be blindly swept between the lower and the higher tuning limits for the control of the cylinder flexural modes resonating within a given frequency band. The study shows that the proposed sweeping tuned vibration absorbers effectively control the resonant response of multiple flexural modes of the cylinder in a given frequency band. This has a direct impact on the cylinder interior noise, which is also reduced in the given frequency band. The appeal for these devices lies in the fact that they can be installed without the need of identifying the dynamic response of the hosting structure. Also they are robust to changes of the dynamic response in the hosting structure.
