Abstract

High Performance Cluster (HPC) represents a pow- erful tool for researchers and scientists. Technology advances make available wired network link with a speed up to 10 Gbps at a relative low cost, furnishing an efficient way to interconnect new generation Multi-core processors on a high integrated computation system. In this work we present the realization of a HPC diskless cluster consisting of one master node and 47 dual core diskless slave nodes. The system is currently used for making computations and simulations by all the Faculties of the University of Ferrara. The main contribute of this work, beside showing the actual performance obtainable by the realized cluster, consists in the proposal of an original idea for the organization of the file system, that greatly simplifies the update operations and maintenance of a cluster of such dimensions.
