In the storage area of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Milan four tempera and gold paintings on large canvas were re-discovered in 2004 during the reorganization of the museum. Originally (1867) they were displayed in the Gallery "Vittorio Emanuele II" in the senter of Milan. In this “open study”, a multidisciplinary research was carried out. The main aims of the work were to characterise the artefacts, develop innovative methods for the consolidation, from both a structural and an aesthetic point of view, then check the quality of results achieved by means of quantitative measurements.
