Resumo

This article shows that Education is a controversial and much-debated subject throughout the world. In Brazil there seems to be a mismatch in the educational issue. Curriculum and learning issues are widely discussed, with a greater emphasis of students, teachers, school and processes to the detriment of education as science and as a specific, broad and complex phenomenon, as defined by Gadotti (2012). Thus, while Darcy Ribeiro (2011), back in 1977, already said that Brazil faces an educational crisis in perpetuity, always insolvable, and apparently with the consent and intentionality of governments and economic and intellectual elites, rather cynical slogans - such as 'Education can change Brazil' - have been coined. Therefore, the proposal is to analyze education as a broad phenomenological process, through qualitative research and seeking to understand the meaning that this assumes for individuals and for the society as the main actor of change.
