Comment:The photograph was printed as part of Cumhuriyet news coverage of local government elections under the headline, ‘Local government elections begin’. According to the newspaper, the young man is an advocate of the ruling party. The elections were marked by the politically engineered creation of an opposition party in the summer of the same year, the Free Republican Party, which was subsequently dissolved on 15 November 1930.
