Although phraseology is now part and parcel of the description of the English language, it still does not figure prominently in mainstream teaching. The present article outlines a course, held in recent years at a university language faculty, which was designed specifically to raise learners??? awareness of phraseology. The course was primarily text-based, and had three specific aims: to demonstrate how prevalent lexico-phraseology is, to describe different types of phraseological phenomena, and to show how much data is present in corpus-informed dictionaries. An essential feature of the course was the presentation of text using PowerPoint, with colour-coding and other typographical techniques being used to combat the readers??? perception that text consists essentially of a sequence of words.
