A hybrid between Festuca rubra L. subsp. rubra and Vulpia myuros (L.) C.C. Gmel. (nothogenus xFestulpia) was found in N-Italy. This is the southernmost record of this nothogenus for Europe and the first for the Italian territory. The specimen is characterised by sterility and intermediate features between the parental species, both morphological and anatomical; among these, in our case, the transversal leaf blade section is the diagnostic and innovative one. No evident biometrical differences resulted from the comparison between the Italian specimen and the xFestulpia descriptions reported in the literature.
