In Portugal, the legislation on family law has long been conditioned by the Church theorethical formulations and the prevailing principles during the authoritarian regime of the Estado Novo. The advent of the First Republic (1910) and, especially the adoption of the Constitution of 1976 (resulting from collapse of the authoritarian regime of Salazar) represent the important steps in the process of secularization of the Country, which largely affected the discipline of family law. Since the beginning of the of XXI century (especially with center-left majority to lead the Government) profound changes taking place in the same way of thinking about family, not in the traditional sense as union between man and woman. Characteristics that we found in the reform of the law about the regime of no-married couples (2001), reproduction and human fertilization (2006), abortion (2007), and, finally, same-sex marriage (2010).[...]
